Facebook Friend or Foe – Richard Spanton Jr

Thinking hard about social media and it’s effects on society lately.   Facebook being one of the worst.  I have a Facebook page that is literally just sitting there.  https://www.facebook.com/richardspantonjr  – I do not engage in any posts or rants.

My love-hate relationship with Facebook came when I wasn’t feeling good after being on it. Seeing all the time wasted on it too. Looking at others posts about things that really don’t matter, their opinions and all the materialistic issues some people have.  Then I started my research and it was staggering.

According to CNBC: “University of Michigan students randomly assigned to read Facebook for 10 minutes were in a worse mood at the end of the day than students assigned to post or talk to friends on Facebook,” the blog post said. “A study from UC San Diego and Yale found that people who clicked on about four times as many links as the average person, or who liked twice as many posts, reported worse mental health than average in a survey.”

Not only that.  There is a “Keep up with the Jones'” type attitude when it comes to social media.

Positive mental health, actual socialization and physical relationships with friends  and family is where I want to be, not in cyber space.
